The Egoscue Exercises Featured in The 4-Hour Body

In the spring of 2011, Posture Alignment Therapy was featured in The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid-Fat Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman by Tim Ferriss.

The 4-Hour Body is a sequel of sorts to the best-selling The 4-Hour Workweek.  The premise of this book book was to become a "human guinea pig" to find out how much he could get his body to do with the least amount of effort and the shortest time possible and share it with his devoted audience.

Ferriss termed the experiments he put his body through to scientifically quantify the results “body hacking”.  In the same way a hacker tries to control a computer program, Ferriss tested a variety of exercise and nutrition programs to find out how to best control the human body.

He put supplements, diets, exercise and injury rehabilitation/prevention programs on trial to accurately measure what programs truly work and more importantly, what do not.  By doing so he was able to quantify their effects on his own body before and after trying them.

As a result, Ferris was able to come up with a definitive way to get “the biggest bang for the buck”.  Each chapter provides readers with a proved and step-by-step approach where the smallest effort, applied at the right places produces super-sized results.

Of course the part I love the most is the chapter on treating chronic/unresolved musculoskeletal and joint pain.

Tim Ferriss was a skeptical of posture alignment therapy (Egoscue).  I can only speculate, but I believe many are because Posture Alignment Therapy is so simple, it’s profound.

To the outside and untrained eye, it just looks to easy to be true.  In the chapter on Reversing Injuries Ferriss discusses his personal skepticism and experience (see pg. 302-306).

Ferriss readily admits he'd been introduced to postural therapy years back, but for a variety of reasons, had never pursued it as an option for addressing his own chronic pain. Personally dismissing it, he had the same skeptical view of postural therapy as many do, but out of curiosity and opportunity, went along with his friend who had an appointment at the Egoscue Phoenix clinic.  Ferriss writes:

“I agreed to accompany him and undergo an evaluation, fully prepared for a nice dose of voodoo.

Instead, I walked out 90 minutes later with no pain in my mid-back for the first time in six months, I couldn’t believe it.”

~ Tim Ferris

Man I laughed for a long time when I read that!  I wish I had a dollar for every instance a client of mine has had the exact same experience.  I know Ferriss was amazed and couldn’t believe it.  To the inexperienced it was too easy to be true!  But to a seasoned veteran who teaches and practices Posture Alignment Therapy on a daily basis,  it didn’t surprise me at all.

Timothy Ferriss’ experience was exactly typical of the vast majority of mine and other Posture Alignment Therapy clients.  Why?  Because instead of “slapping a band-aid on the symptom” as I like to call it, he allowed himself the opportunity to identify and treat the root cause of the problem.  Ferris leaned what Pete Egoscue has been saying for over 40 years.

"The site of the pain is rarely the site of the problem."

Instead of chasing after his back pain symptoms, Ferris was given the same treament that any client who comes to Pain Free Posture MN would receive.  A full postural evaluation, tests for compensations and dysfunctions of his major load joints, and had a corrective exercise menu generated to address HIS unique postural imbalances.

The RESULT? His so called “permanent” injury was REVERSED!   Ferris went from a dubious skeptic to optimistic believer in a short 90 minutes.  That’s after months and months of daily chronic pain!  Wow!

He also talks about his experience doing the Supine Groin Progressive in the Tower.

“The Supine Groin Progressive (the “Tower”), the most inconvenient, unusual, and time-consuming of the five (e-cises) is the singular most effective tool I’ve found for eliminating psoas and other hip flexor tightness to unlock the pelvis and relieve hamstring tightness.”

~ Tim Ferriss

Ferriss came to postural therapy with a nasty trifecta of skepticism, tight hip flexor/hamstrings and upper back pain.   Profoundly, he left PAIN FREE.  That’s the simplicity of treating the Body as A Unit!

Still skeptical?  No problem.  We understand.  You can Download The Egoscue Method Posture Alignemtn Therapy exercises featured in The 4-Hour Body for FREE.
