Natural Pain Relief At Your Finger Tips

Natural Pain Relief At Your Finger Tips

Here's a quick pain relieving technique based on an acupressure point found in the hand I've started using myself, and wanted to share with you all.

"If you need relief from an ache or pain, visit the Valley of Harmony. You won’t have to travel far to feel it’s revitalizing effects, though. It’s an acupressure point right on your hand. This point can ease headaches and body aches and revitalize your immune system. The spot is in the fleshy part (the “V” or webbing) of your hand between the index finger and thumb. Press both sides of the center of that area with your other thumb and index finger. You’ll know you have the right spot if you feel a slight discomfort in that area. Press there for two minutes, and then switch to the other hand. Once you’re done, you’ll see why they call it the Valley of Harmony!" ~ The Daily Burst of Energy

The Valley of Harmony acupressure point is simple and easily accessible, so why not give it a try?

Personally, I enjoy acupuncture, and believe firmly in the benefits.  I support the idea of using an acupressure point or any other combined modality to help the nervous system (which when aggravated, sends pain signals to the body) calm down.

Acupressure follows the same concepts as acupuncture but is done on your own or by others without the use of a needle.  The main idea of acupressure is that by applying focused stimulation at particular energy points (in this case the Valley of Harmony in the Hand) as identified by Traditional Chinese Medicine, you help the body elicit a global healing response that is transmitted throughout the body.

In the instance of The Valley of Harmony acupressure point is often in TCM to strengthen the immune system and overall pain relief.

If you do a web search on the topic you'll find that there are many other additional benefits believed to be associated with this pressure point including:

  • re-vitalized energy
  • helpful for cold, flu and sore throat
  • addresses the sensation of cold hands and feet
  • constipation
  • eczema
  • headaches
  • menstrual disorders
  • ulcers

In my professional opinion, I don't believe that simply using this acupressure point singularly addresses the underlying root cause of why the pain is happening, but at the same time, the human body is truly a miraculous thing.

I'm sure there are many who've found the pain relief they needed from this one simple technique.  I personally think that if you used it in conjunction with a corrective exercise menu, it is a great additional pain management tool you can put into your self-care tool box.

It's worth the time to try it out for yourself next time you do Static Back, Supine Groin Stretch or any corrective exercise menu.  Remember, you should apply steady pressure with your opposite thumb until you feel a slight soreness.  Hold for 2 minutes and be sure to repeat on your other side.

If you plan to do it, leave us a comment and let us know how it went, and please reach out if you have any questions.  Remember, we're in this together, and I am here to help!
