Aloha!  I'm writing to you all from beautiful Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii!   I'm here to teach a Posture Alignment Specialist Certification Seminar.  

 

I can't possibly communicate with accurate depth how grateful I am to be in Kailua right now.  It feels like I've come full circle in my professional career, and in fact, it truly has.

 

I am teaching PAS 1 & 2 Seminar at Pilates Training Center Hawaii, the very place where I first found posture alignment therapy.  

 

Back in May of 2007, I had the opportunity to fly to Oahu for the day to visit.  While at PTCH, I saw another Pilates instructor working with a client.  While in the midst of a private pilates session, she was modifying a movement with a style almost identical to my own.  

 

I can never express how seeing that practically knocked me over.  In almost 10 years of teaching pilates, and almost 20 years of teaching movement, I had NEVER seen anyone else look at the person as a whole unit.

 

Although the client was in a pilates session, the instructor identified a joint dysfunction which limited the correct movement and function required of the exercise.  The pilates instructor, Jeebee Yim was masterfully addressing her client's joint dysfunction with a corrective exercise (hooklying knee pillow squeezes) to create the proper demand.  

 

I had been doing just that with my own clients for years!  If the client couldn't do it, I was determined to figure out what wasn't happening in the body and then create a path and a way to facilitate it.

 

Chronic Inflammation & Posture Alignment Therapy

Today we have a guest blog by Lisa Meyer of Pain Free Performance in Charlottesville, VA.  Lisa discusses how chronic inflammation of the joints develops due to imbalanced postural position. 

 

I completely agree with Lisa.  When there are misalignments in the four major load joints, the cumulative results of imbalances is low grade joint inflammation.  Left unaddressed, overtime, this inflammation is the root cause of a multitude of serious osteoarthritic problems.  

 

Postural alignment therapy with a Certified Posture Alignment Specialist plays a huge and positive role in helping to reduce chronic inflammation of the joints.  I've seen it happen hundreds of times with my own clients.  However, in my opinion, I would also like to point out that human beings are more than just a body.  Posture is just one component of the whole picture.
